Willie Casper is a native Austin based tenor. Willie’s credits consist of the roles of Le Chevalier in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites, Tenor in Philip Glass’ Hydrogen Jukebox, Younger Thompson in Cipullo’s Glory Denied, and Prologue Tenor in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw. Willie made his Austin debut in the role of Malcolm in Opera for Earth's production of Verdi’s Macbeth, and has performed the tenor role in Glass’ Book of Longing, with Austin Chamber Music Festival. Willie debuted the role of Roger de Montgomery in the premiere of Andrew Grainger's chamber oratorio Adelina the Jester with Inversion Ensemble in June. Willie is currently a Resident Star for Austin Opera and has been a Teaching Artist for the company since 2022. Willie obtained his Bachelor degree in Vocal Performance at Mannes College of Music and his Master degree in Opera Performance at the Boston Conservatory.

Austin Opera’s new Resident Stars program highlights gifted Austin-based artists during the season. Resident Stars will have opportunities to perform in Long Center productions and community events as well as serve as teaching artists for in-school programs. Later this season, the Resident Stars will be featured in an annual showcase for a live audience. Additional opportunities include master classes and training in a wide range of arts administration topics.

Join us for our next Concert at the Consulate event on Wednesday, July 17 at the Consulate General of Mexico in Austin. Austin Opera Associate Director of Artistic Administration and Curator of Latinx & Hispanic Programming Claudia Chapa and Austin Opera Resident Star Willie Casper will perform popular and beloved Mexican and Latinx song selections with pianist Maimy Fong. Adelina the Jester is the title of a brand new chamber oratorio featuring Inversion Ensemble. With the libretto by playwright Katie Bender and music by composer Andrew Grainger, it is being developed in Austin with performances at the Scottish Rite Theater on Saturday, June 22nd at 7.30pm and Sunday, June 23rd at 3pm, 2024.

This six-week series of interactive workshops will be held at various Austin Public Library branches. Workshops will include live performance and interactive educational activities for children, with each workshop focusing on a particular aspect of opera. Each workshop will last approximately one hour and feature a short activity introducing the theme of that day’s workshop, followed by a creative project for participants, ending in a short performance.
